Goem - DiscoDisco is the latest in a long line of releases from Goem, a trio featuring Peter Duimelinks, Roel Meelkop, and Frans de Waard. Between them they also record as Beequeen, Kapotte Muziek, and THU 20. Goem allows the trio to use raw electronic sound. The sound of Disco is literally a stripped down version of techno. Obviously we're taking about the harder and harsher ends of the techno spectrum. Source material is looped, layered, and mixed with pulses and clicks. Earlier releases have appeared on labels such as Rastermusic and Mego so that may provide an indication on what Goem are about. Yet Disco still betrays a sterile industrialised feel that varies in volume and intensity that almost puts it on a par with Pan Sonic. Which is always welcome, around these parts anyway.
