Nordvargr - Awaken

Nordvargr's Awaken features some of the bleakest of black ambient I've heard in a long time. For the most part Awaken develops from deep rumblings, cavernous echoes, deathly percussion to agonized human voices. Only 'Lament' manages to pierce the darkness herein with the sound of an angelic choir caught in the wind and 'Cellardweller' which punctuates the bleakness with black metal guitar. Nordvargr's compositions on Awaken are cinematic in scope, with the closer, 'Seeds of Blood' pursuing an ambitious atmospheric piece. All Nordvargr material sells out quickly and you may be hard pressed to track this one down already as its limited to 666 copies only - and never to be repressed.
