Rustblade reissue Black Sun Productions stunning operettAmorale album
operettAmorale is Black Sun Productions' personal tribute to the poetry of German poet, playwright and thinker Bertolt Brecht (1898 - 1956). The album is composed of 11 classic Brecht's songs, here revisited according to Massimo & Pierce's irreverent attitude. They also invited some friends to contribute to the album: Coil recorded the song 'A List Of Wishes' (one of the latest studio performances by Johnn Balance) purposely for this album; Lydia Lunch delivered her incomparable voice for 'The Ballad Of Sexual Dependency'; H. R. Giger contributed with the cover artwork and a vocal cameo appearance on 'Seeräuber-Jenny'. operettAmorale was produced by Massimo & Pierce in collaboration with Larsen's member Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo, whom also provided some original music and the acoustic arrangements. Among the musicians whom participated to operettAmorale's recording sessions are Julia Kent (Antony and the Johnsons) and Marco Schiavo (Larsen).

operettAmorale is released in a limited colour double vinyl with posters in an edition of 499 copies, and as an ultra limited deluxe box with double vinyl, CD and gadgets, limited to 69 copies. For more information go to Rustblade

Two new books explore the visual art of Coil
10 years since Coil's founder and vocalist, John Balance, fell to his death on November 13th 2004 and 4 years since his partner in life and Coil, Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson passed away unexpectedly in his sleep. Timeless Editions, a French publishing house, honour and unveil a little seen aspect of their art: their work in the visual field. Whilst Christopherson's work in commercial photography and design has been noted, he was a long-time partner in the hugely influential design-partnership Hipgnosis, his most personal work has up until now not been collected and published. Balance's art, on the other hand, is a completely unchartered territory and the book on his art offers a first but comprehensive overview of his talent and influences.

Peter Christopherson - Photography
The legendary unpublished photographic work of Peter Christopherson.

The b/w photos featured in the book run the gamut from personal fetishes to social commentary on 1970s UK, portraits of bands, friends and strangers. There are both snapshots and highly staged scenarios. Approximately 95% of this material is published here for the first time ever.

Foreword by Claus Laufenburg and a short personal reminiscence by Thighpaulsandra.

Regular edition
Regular edition of 500 copies
27 x 33,5 cm - 284 pages, b/w. hardbound.

Special edition

Bright Lights And Cats With No Mouths - The Art of John Balance Collected

Homages to idols and inspirations next to idiosyncratic magical dreamscapes executed in a wide variety of styles and mediums.

Compiled by Liam Thomas and Thighpaulsandra, with text by Val Denham and Jeremy Reed.

Regular edition
First edition of 500 copies hardbound copies.

Edward Ka-Spel releases Ghost Logik CD and Ltd Box
Edward Ka-spel, best known as lead singer, musician, and co-founder of The Legendary Pink Dots presents his newest work Ghost Logik. The disc represents a voyage into the most hidden recesses of the subconscious mind and flows with the dream-like quality unique to Ka-spel and his work. The atmospheres of the songs range from vast ambient spoken word spaces to enduring psychedelic ballads where the warmth of Ka-spel's voice moves with us in solitary, dilated harmony. Meandering throughout the tracks of this eclectic opera is the sense of a conceptual overlay, tied to images of abandoned abodes and ancient spirits. An epic return and one of the most cohesive albums this artist has composed in recent years. Close your eyes and listen...

Ghost Logik is released as a digipak edition. Ghost Logik is also available in two limited box editions. The Ghost Logik Ltd Box is available in an edition of 250 copies in a green bag containing 2 CD, postcard, sticker, skull amulet. Also available is the Ghost Logik Deluxe Box released in an edition of 99 copies containing 3 CD, 1 DVD, postcard, sticker, green bag, skull amulet, tarot, wooden bracelet. The DVD features Ghost Logik A Short Film directed by Rosamaria Montalbano. Ghost Logik is released by www.rustblade.com

New Australia Exhibition - Untitled (colloquial: Atrocity Exhibitions)
Atrocity Exhibition Curated by Jack Sargeant &: Linsey Gosper Artists: Romain Slocombe, Lydia Lunch, Tyler Hubby, Samantha Sweeting, Monte Cazazza, Usama Alshaibi, Linsey Gosper and Jack Sargeant

Exhibition opening: Tuesday 21st August 6-8pm 21.8.12 - 26.8.12
ALASKA Projects, Level 2 of the Kings Cross Car Park, 9A Elizabeth Bay Rd Elizabeth Bay (directly behind the Kings Cross Police station)

Drawing on the exploration of the eruption of repressed desires and polymorphic perversions into the everyday, hinted at in J G Ballard's experimental novel 'The Atrocity Exhibition', from where the colloquial title is drawn, this collection of images explores the emergence of new manifestations of the psychosexual unconscious. In these works libidinal outpourings become manifests through unusual fetishes, unleashed urges and images of polymorphic sexuality, all emerging from the collusion of urban zones and economics, amputated urges and personal explorations of seduction and desire.

Romain Slocombe: as a fine artist and photographer Slocombe has exhibited his fetish photographs and paintings internationally. He has published numerous books of photographs including City of the Broken Dolls (Creation Books), Tokyo Sex Underground (Creation Books), A Floating World (Michel Baveret Editeur), and many others. The three photographic works exhibited here explore his ongoing interest with a post-trauma fetishism in which the process of healing and recuperation becomes the locus for libidinal desires.

Lydia Lunch: As a musician Lydia Lunch founded Teenage Jesus and has collaborated with Rowland S Howard, Foetus, The Birthday Party, Sonic Youth and many others. She is currently recording and performing with Gallon Drunk under the name Big Sexy Noise. She has authored the novel Paradoxia: A Predator's Diary (Akashic Books) and published numerous collections of shorter works including Will Work For Drugs (Akashic Books) and Incriminating Evidence (Last Gasp), amongst others. She has collaborated with - and appeared in films by - Beth B, Richard Kern and amongst others. She has exhibited her photography internationally and a collection of her photographs has been published as The Gun Is Loaded (Black Dog). Her latest work is a literary, cultural and culinary exploration of food that extends beyond recipes into a sassy, sexy and occasionally hedonistic celebration of food; The Need To Feed will be published in September.

Tyler Hubby: works as a filmmaker and photographer. Hubby's photography is best known from the magazine Artillery, while his films have been screened at festivals and galleries across America and Europe. The images exhibited here were found in a garage in a major metropolitan city and are part of a number of images depicting strippers and erotic dancers.

Samantha Sweeting: is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice takes the form of embodied storytelling, drawing upon memory, mythology, psychoanalysis, folklore and fairytales. Her works have been exhibited internationally and were recently included in the Tate Liverpool's Alice exhibition. The works exhibited here emerged from a series of explorations examining seduction and sexuality.

Monte Cazazza: first emerged as a mail artist. Monte coined the term Industrial Music while collaborating with Throbbing Gristle in the mid-seventies. He has subsequently worked with various bands and musicians and has released numerous solo albums, the most recent of which was The Cynic (Blast First Petite). He has worked with Survival Research Labs engaging in numerous legendary machine performances, co-produced and directed short films including the infamous SXXX80. As an artist he has exhibited his frequently confrontational and darkly humorous artworks across the world. He was a regular contributor to (and subject of) the groundbreaking journal Re/Search.

Usama Alshaibi: is an award-winning film director and photographer. He has directed two feature films, the most recent of which is Profane, and a feature length documentary, as well as numerous short films, all of which have screened across the world. He is currently working on his second feature length documentary. The photographs exhibited draw on the themes of sexuality, lust and fantasy that inform much of his short film practice.

Linsey Gosper: drawing the personal out of collective experiences, Gosper's work sees the artist positioning herself within the shifting terrains that demark identity, sexuality and gender. She uses the performative body and self-portraiture to explore her subject matter. In the work here she has collaborated with Jack Sargeant to examine the relationship between performance and experience, transgression, sexuality and gender against the background of the automobile.

Curators: Currently residing in Sydney, Jack Sargeant has curated exhibitions and performances and programmed film and music events since the late 1980s, including the film programme at the Sydney Biennale 2012. The author of numerous essential books on underground culture, cult film and cutting-edge art, including Deathtripping: The Extreme Underground (Soft Skull), Suture (Creation Books) and Naked Lens: Beat Cinema (Soft Skull) amongst others. He has written dozens of articles, essays and program notes for a variety of books, magazines, journals and publications including RealTime, The Wire and Fortean Times. In addition he has written introductions to numerous books by fine artists and photographers, including publications by Romain Slocombe, Lydia Lunch and outsider artist Joe Coleman. His photos have been published in various magazines and catalogues.

Linsey Gosper is a photographic artist and curator based in Melbourne working predominately with photography and installation. She is currently the manager of the photographic gallery Colour Factory in Fitzroy where she contributes regularly as a curator. She has worked in this position since Colour Factory Gallery's inception in October 2009. Linsey exhibits extensively at artist run, regional and commercial galleries in Australia. Her last solo exhibition Object Love was in February 2012 at Stills Gallery, Paddington.

Othon is working on PINEAL, please support!
Just a few months after the release of Impermanence Othon is working on PINEAL. PINEAL promises to be an ambitious and a challenging project to realize that will allow him to use an entirely new template to play and create music. For PINEAL, Othon will bring his beloved but unexplored (by him) world of dance music together with his deep, emotional and unconventional songwriting. He will explore his thoughts, hopes and worries for the future and invite some of his favourite Ayahuasceros to bless PINEAL and its listeners with their life-transforming healing Icaros.

According to Othon:
PINEAL is a project that deals with consciousness and awareness, imagination and dreams. It is about the the Watchers, the Healers, the Shamans and the Shining Ones - outside of us and inside us. Pineal is about our DNA and our future. It is about Love and Transcendence.

PINEAL is not a conceptual work. It comes from the heart and aims to the heart. Its related ideas tend to come to me effortlessly and unexpectedly while on a passive receptive state.

PINEAL is unlike anything I have done so far. For the first time, I intend to combine my love for rhythm and dancing with the freedom and flexibility of PAN muzik. I intend to learn and put into practice the skills of the producer without forgetting my roots as a composer.

With PINEAL I want to bring the inner child to the forefront. With PINEAL I want to PLAY!

PINEAL is not so much about me but about the collective energies of the people around me. PINEAL is about allowing my loved ones to feed the PINEAL flame in their own special way. It is about channeling our creativity beyond our normal capabilities. PINEAL is as much about YOU, as it is about me.

PINEAL will include some of Othon's old-time favourite collaborators together with some exciting new artists whose energy and work has been particularly influential for this album. Marc Almond, Bird Radio, Ernesto Tomasini and artist/photographer Predrag Pajdic are already confirmed to contribute to the project

In order to meet costs, Othon has launched a campaign page to raise funds and awareness of this ambitious project. In return, Othon is offering gifts including credits on the CD sleeve, flyers, posters, handwritten scores, and the opportunity to wine and dance with Othon. We'll be supporting this, so should you.

Occulture in Glasgow
There are several events occurring in Glasgow that should be of interest.

Austin Osman Spare: Self as Hitler, 1936 The Glasgow Working
To celebrate the opening of Objections to an Empty Mind at The Hidden Noise gallery Strange Attractor presents a night of talk, music and film.

Phil Baker, author of Austin Osman Spare: The Life and Legend of London's Lost Artist, presents an illustrated talk about the artist and his work.

Magick Concrète : a mediumistic improvisation for phonomantium and guitar, featuring Mark Pilkington (Strange Attractor) and Drew Mulholland (Mount Vernon Arts Lab).

The London Nobody Knows (1969, 60 minutes): James Mason presents a wry view of unseen London, based on the books of Geoffrey Fletcher - a psychogeographer's delight.

Strange Attractor presents The Glasgow Working at The Old Hairdressers on February 15. For more information go here

Objections to an Empty Mind - Austin Osman Spare with Richard Brown
The exhibition brings together a small yet potent selection of works by Spare from several private collections, and is curated to bring to the fore his exquisite draughtsmanship (often likened to Albrecht Dürer), and to highlight his interests in occult traditions, psychical phenomena, Eastern philosophy, wireless broadcasting and his own idiosyncratic theories about the unconscious. Works include obsessively- detailed phantoms and grotesques; symbolist and astral landscapes; automatic drawings; hallucinatory pastels; examples of Spare's anamorphic portraits (his 'experiments in relativity'), as well as more traditional, vivid self-portraits and portraits of local cockneys.

Shown alongside Spare's works will be Richard Brown's 'Electro-chemical Glass', 1997, a time-based work using non-digital media comprising three disks of copper, aluminum and iron on a bed of liquid fertilizer, all encased in glass. Over fourteen years, through a series ongoing chemical interactions, the work is slowly unfolding and transforming, new shoots of iron and sheens of gold and lapis lazuli blue evoking ideas of alchemy, hyper-dimensionality and the magic of the real.

Objections to an Empty Mind runs from February 17 - March 17 at Hidden Noise, 1/1, 24 Hayburn Crescent, Glasgow, G11 5AY. For more information go to www.thehiddennoise.info

A Psychocinematic Ritual: OV, The Psychogeographical Commission and The Wyrding Module
A celebration of ritual, the occult, and the disturbing power of music and cinema.

After their spectacular warm up for Italian horror score legends Goblin at last year's festival, occult project OV returns for a much-anticipated live experience, using ritual, coincidence, numerology and a hefty dose of magick to explore both the beauty and cruelty of war.

The unsettling collaboration between members of Desalvo, Unwinding Hours and Sons and Daughters, the project was borne from a mutual fascination with the occult and the magical use of visuals. Using live film soundtracks alongside intriguing visuals, prepare to be reminded of the power of music and cinema to shock and disturb.

The Wyrding Module is a solo project from paramusician Christopher Gladwin, one half of " Team Doyobi ". The psychotronic sounds of the The Wyrding Module are inspired by kosmische musik, mantra-rock, post-industrial ambience and the occult.

The Psychogeographical Commission have released the albums Genius Loci and Patient Zero and the mini CD Widdershins. Their music combines psychogeography and magick with sonic experimentation. The Psychogeographical Commission have featured heavily in the pages of compulsiononline. This event marks the debut live performance of The Psychogeographical Commission.

A Psychocinematic Ritual takes place at The Old Hairdressers, Glasgow on February 23. Don't miss it. For more information go to www.facebook.com/events/165759293533001/

Out now is Othon's stunning new album Impermanence
Othon's much-anticipated second album is finally here! Othon Mataragas is a genre-bending songwriter, a non-conformist composer and an eccentric pianist. He has collaborated on the soundtrack to the Bruce LaBruce film Otto; or Up With Dead People and a new live accompaniment to the Derek Jarman film The Angelic Conversation together with the father of industrial music Peter Christopherson (Throbbing Gristle, Coil). His music has been featured in comedy shows by David Hoyle, art exhibitions like 'Gay Icons' at the National Portrait Gallery and he has worked with musicians like Marc Almond, Current 93 and Laura Moody. For Impermanence, his new highly ambitious music venture, Othon's ongoing collaborator Ernesto Tomasini demonstrates his huge 4 octave range across many of its tracks: 'At Night', 'The Fall', '59', 'A Little Dream' and 'Impermanence'. Marc Almond, who also guests in the album, lends his voice to the darkest and most torturous moment on the record with his interpretation of the title track and his dramatic rendition of 'Last Night I Paid To Close My Eyes'. Camille O'Sullivan contributes with her passionate storytelling voice to 'A Trip to Paradise' and the songwriter himself sings on 'All Is Too Soon' a song dedicated to a childhood friend who recently died of a heroin overdose. Other guests include guitarist Justin Jones (And Also the Trees), vocalist Beverly Crome (The Cesarians) and the Elysian Quartet. Othon has done the album's lush arrangements and Troy Banarzi has produced the title track.

Impermanence is an important landmark in Othon's artistic evolution. Inspired by a series of Tibetan Tantric meditations, it explores, in his words, "how our small world and everything that surrounds it may eventually be destroyed but, also, how Love can play a transformative role by giving birth to a young and naughty phoenix from the ashes of our old-world emotions".

Stylistically, Impermanence is virtually indefinable - with 50s pop, death baroque, post-minimalist and sleazy folk references, Othon has given his album the genre of 'PAN muzik'; a new off-limits musical genre that includes all genres! An all-embracing and holistic style of music neither exclusively experimental nor pop, neither strictly progressive nor banal. Impermanence is out now on Cherry Red/ Strike Force Entertainment. For more information go to www.cherryred.co.uk/sfe-exd.asp?id=3385 or www.othonmataragas.com

Feasting With Panthers a full-length collaboration between Marc Almond and Michael Cashmore
Feasting With Panthers is a collaboration between Marc Almond and composer Michael Cashmore setting poems of Count Eric Stenbock plus unique translations by Poet Jeremy Reed, of poems by Jean Genet, Rimbaud, Paul Verlaine as well as Reeds own Poetry, to music. 'Decadent' poems of Thwarted love, Opiated romance, decadence and death woven with a Homo-eroticism accompanied by Michael Cashmore's haunting, melancholic music that gives the verse a feeling of yearning for beauty and a longing for lost innocence and youth. The album was recorded over several years sending files by email and post, never once recording together in the studio, Berlin based Michael Cashmore working at home to compose the music, playing all of the instruments and adding Marcs vocals from files recorded in London. The result is a glorious union, both in voice and music, complementing the text. The project began after Current 93's David Tibet gave Marc a book of Poems by the Baltic German Poet Count Stanislaus Eric Stenbock he had published through the Durtro label. Marc was instantly attracted to the dark erotic and melancholic yearning in the verse and contacted Michael Cashmore who he had previously worked with on Current 93's reading of Idumea. He felt Michael would have the right understanding of the verse with his intricate beautiful musical work. The project developed to include many of Marc's favourite Poems by some of his favourite 'outsider' Poets with a common ground. Marc and Michael released a limited edition EP of Stenbocks Gabriel and The Lunatic Lover through Durtro Records and performed both songs at The Queen Elizabeth Hall in London with Current 93 in 2008. Feasting With Panthers is out now on Cherry Red/ Strike Force. For more information go to www.marcalmond.co.uk/microsites/feasting/index.html

Ten Plagues by Mark Ravenhill and Conor Mitchell

Marc Almond is appearing in Ten Plagues at the Edinburgh Festival throughout August. Read on.

A thrilling and unique music-theatre experience performed by Marc Almond.

In London
Came the plague in sixteen sixty five
One hundred thousand dead
But I alive.

London is infected. The dead fall in the streets. As the plague pits fill, the people of London struggle to maintain a society in the face of overwhelming mortality. Based on eye-witness accounts from 1665 and drawing poetic parallels with modern epidemics, Ten Plagues relates one man's journey through a city in crisis.

Ten Plagues is an extraordinary collaboration between four of the UK's most distinctive artists - the internationally acclaimed artist and iconic muscian Marc Almond; playwright Mark Ravenhill (Shopping and Fucking, Ravenhill for Breakfast, A Life in Three Acts); Traverse Artist in Residence and international theatre director and opera designer Stewart Laing (untitled projects, Titanic on Broadway) and the award winning Conor Mitchell. Conor has written over 40 scores for theatre, including Have a Nice Life and the New York Musical Theatre Festival.

New Human Greed album
The eagerly anticipated fourth album from Human Greed - Fortress Longing: the internal campaign for the safe and complete return of the sleeping egyptian to the desert - is now available. A special limited edition (120) features an additional disc, Deshret, featuring a new 35 minute reworking of Fortress material by Michael Begg and Colin Potter.

Michael Begg is joined, once more, by erstwhile visual artist Deryk Thomas, and a handful of other performers and friends: Antony and the Johnsons cellist Julia Kent once more lends grace to the proceedings, whilst Fovea Hex colleague Laura Sheeran provides vocal arrangements and harmonies. Nicole Boitos - who painted the blue lamb featured on the cover of the recording also provides a reading voice to Begg's texts, as does the Norwegian singer Tommy Aashildrod. Further vocal chants and singing bowls are provided by Charlemagne Palestine collaborator and 48 Cameras leader Jean Marie Mathoul, whilst Colin Potter, with whom Begg already collaborates on Fragile Pitches and Fovea Hex also contributes - notably in the 30+ minute work, Deshret, included as an extra disc on a limited edition of the release.

In Fortress Longing Human Greed has delivered a singular and hypnotic work of disagreeable beauty! For more information go to www.omnempathy.com
